The Lake Minnetonka Association has initiated
the Lake Minnetonka Association Exotic Species Fund to pro-actively
address emerging threats from exotic species in or coming to Lake
Minnetonka. The Fund has two purposes: 1) to implement pro-active
protection measures to prevent unwanted exotic plants and animals
from entering our lake and 2) to support and implement control efforts,
and research and education for exotic species already in Lake Minnetonka.
Simply, this fund will support advocacy and action.
Exotic species that are already threatening the preservation of
Lake Minnetonka include Eurasian watermilfoil, curly-leaf pondweed
and carp.
Harmful exotic species coming our way include zebra mussels, water
lettuce, Egyptian geese, threespine stickleback, Asian carp, black
swan, mute swan, flowering rush, ruffe, round goby, spiny waterflea,
rusty crayfish, water chestnut, variable milfoil, hydrilla and fanwort.
There are also viruses that attack and kill fish nearing Minnesota.
Contributions will make the Lake Minnetonka Association
a strong voice for better control of exotic species inhabiting our
lake and for protection against new exotic species. Make a donation to the Exotic Species Fund today by clicking the link below!
